Never one to sway away from engagement, Dahl hit up her Instagram page to dish on the questions she’s asked when it comes to her gym grind - plus answers.

The top 10 questions I get asked most often about powerlifting (in no particular order):

1️⃣How long have you been lifting? 💪🏼- I’ve been strength training for about 11 years, but I didn’t start focusing on the big 3 lifts (squat, bench, deadlift) until 2016. I was DIYing it with programs I found online (i.e. stronglifts 5x5) for 2 years, and in 2018 I got my first powerlifting coach. Since then, powerlifting has been my one and only fitness love!

2️⃣What’s your favorite lift? 💪🏼- Either deadlift or bench press, depending on how I feel that day. But never squats. Of course I do them, but I do not enjoy them very much.

3️⃣What are your PRs? 💪🏼- squat: 95kg (209lbs), bench: 66kg (145lbs), deadlift: 120kg (264lbs). I benefitted a lot from beginner gains, and it’s been a few years since I hit those numbers. I’d like to meet and exceed them again, but since I’ve had training irregularities and a few minor injuries since then, I’m in no rush.

4️⃣Do you do cardio? 💪🏼- Yes! Usually 2-3x/week for 30 minutes with a target heart rate of 130-150. I think cardio is boring, and the only way I can stand it is on a rowing machine or stairmaster. Ellipticals are dumb, and I’m convinced I’ll literally fall asleep on a treadmill. (I do like walking outside though! ☀️)

5️⃣Have you ever/would you ever compete in a powerlifting meet? 💪🏼- I’ve gone to meets to support my lifting friends, so I know what the vibe is like. But I don’t have any plans to compete any time soon, personally.

6️⃣Conventional or sumo deadlift? 💪🏼- Conventional all the way! I tried training sumo, but it didn’t work for me. Yes I have long legs - but I also have very short arms and a short torso, and I find sumo positioning to be very awkward beyond a certain weight. Meanwhile I’ve never had issues with conventional, even though my stance is unusually narrow (or so I’ve been told).

7️⃣Low bar or high bar squat? 💪🏼- Low bar is my default mode. My coach (shoutout to @drdaveatops!) sometimes programs high bar squats for back-off sets or variations, but when I’m hitting higher weight I prefer low bar.
