Last Friday, GRAMMY-nominated,multi-platinum award-winning producer Tay Keith kicks off Valentine’s Day as he teams up with songwriter and rap sensation Tim Gent for his single and music video of “MLB”(Make Love Baby). The release of this track, follows his latest collaboration with Travis Scott on “4x4,” a hard-hitting track that catapulted him to his fifth time charting at no.1 Billboard Hot 100.
Initially teased on Instagram, "MLB" represents a bold new direction for Keith, trading his signature hard-hitting beats for a sensual, romantic sound. The track showcases a smooth R&B-influenced production style, featuring authentic melodies that create an irresistibly catchy vibe. The blend of Gent’s expressive lyricism and the clever double entendre of the acronym "MLB" runs throughout the song, with multiple layers of meaning that range from romantic connections to playful baseball imagery. In the song, baseball references are showcased, highlighted in the chorus: "Swinging it out the park, then I'm running towards the bases, yeah / Home plate, yeah, just give it to me." These references extend to iconic baseball figures like Ken Griffey Jr., Barry Bonds, and Jackie Robinson, skillfully woven into the narrative. This fusion of sensuality and wordplay, paired with the fresh direction in sound, sets "MLB" apart, marking a daring yet seamless evolution in Keith's artistic journey.
The accompanying music video, filmed at Nashville’s iconic First Horizon Park and directed by esteemed Ed Pryor, perfectly complements the song with its captivating visuals. Set beneath the glowing stadium lights, the video captures the vibrant energy of a carefree nighttime baseball game, evoking nostalgia while radiating a warm, feel-good charm. With Keith making an appearance alongside children featured prominently and a strong sense of community throughout, the visuals amplify the uplifting spirit of the project. Additionally, with Gent being a Nashville-based artist and the video set in a Nashville stadium, the collaboration underscores Keith’s deepening roots in the city’s music scene, solidifying his presence and influence as a key figure in Nashville's evolving creative landscape.
